Thanks nicolas! I'll put up a PDF of the thesis once it has been examined, I don't want to tempt fate ;-)

Generally: I'm happy to respond to individual inquiries about the thesis via email, and can provide copies of particular articles or chapters on request.

Hi, Sam --

Just got around to approving this trackback. Months later, I'm still irritated by the video. I think part of what irritates me is exactly that -- the pristine, IKEA-style cleanliness. It' s not just the "clean" disaster which gets to me -- it's also the antiseptic living room in the early part of the scenario. Why is it that there are no knick-knacks in the future?

[...] Sam Kinsey put up a video on YouTube on ubiquitous computing circa 1991 that explores the work done by the Xerox PARC Computer Science Labotratory (the video is put together from these clips). The quality of the video is pretty bad, but it features wonderful acting and soothing background music in addition to a historical time capsule. Old research papers rarely convay the excitement felt at the time. This one is restrained, but touching. A mood piece to accompany old papers. [...]

Yep, I've read 'Potential Politics and the Primacy of Preemption' by Massumi, it's a good paper. Its one of the main sources of my thought on plotting a broader 'politics of anticipation' in relation to technology development and envisioning. i think Massumi's work on preemption and 'operative logics' is under-used, it's good stuff!!
